Scientific subcommittee 12 – Transfusion, Haemostasis, and Thrombosis

  • Issue 72

Christian Fenger-Eriksen, Chair SSC12

Subcommittee 12 includes Aamer Ahmed, UK; Christia Boer, the Netherlands; Gianni Biancofiore, Italy; and Christian Fenger-Eriksen, Denmark. We are a group of members from different parts of Europe who are highly dedicated and interested in coagulation, transfusion, and haemostasis issues. We are involved in various themes and tasks related to our specialty within the European Society. Among others, the group and previous members have been involved in the ETPOS study (European Transfusion Practice and Outcome Study) and the publication of ‘Management of severe perioperative bleeding: guidelines from the European Society of Anaesthesiology’ (Eur J Anaesthesiol 2017;34(6):332-95).

Annually we plan and arrange Euroanaesthesia within the field of our expertise. We are currently developing a pre-congress course and initiated the planning of a two-day Focus Meeting to be held in 2018.

For Euroanaesthesia in Copenhagen 2018 we have arranged a great number of interesting sessions with international speakers and experts, including among others the following titles ‘Update on transfusion complications’, ‘Searching for the ideal transfusion trigger’,’ Regional anaesthesia and antithrombotics’, ‘Perioperative management of the bleeding elderly patient’, and ‘To bridge or not to bridge’.

In Geneva 2017 we arranged for the first time a pre-congress course titled ‘Point of care guided haemostatic management during massive bleeding’. The course was sold out and a big success with a lot of discussion and interaction in smaller groups. The course will be repeated in Copenhagen including a great combination of short lectures, case discussions, and hands-on training during a half day with a maximum of 50 participants.
